Summary: I study infectious disease surveillance and run the clinical testing lab at Boise State. We also study wildlife populations to measure their fitness as an indicator of environmental health.

Minimum Courses: 100 or 200 level Biology would be helpful

Projects: Students will engage in Next Generation Sequencing and qPCR in order to test environmental samples, patient samples, and wildlife samples for infectious diseases. Students will also learn bioinformatics approaches to analyze the large datasets generated during this work and learn to create visuals for publication. Students with enough chemistry and biology credits will also be introduced to clinical sample testing.
